The recent incident involving the sale of 6 million Indonesian National Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) records on the dark web for $10,000 is a stark reminder of the growing threat of data breaches in Indonesia. According to cybersecurity firm Surfshark, since 2004, over 60.9 billion data records have been exposed worldwide, with 17.2 billion being email addresses. Top 7 Countries with the Highest Number of Data Breaches

The United States has been the most affected country, with an average of 37 data points lost per American citizen due to cyber breaches since 2004. The most frequently leaked data includes ZIP codes, first names, last names, and passwords, totaling over 12.5 billion data points.

Russia comes in second, with over 4.3 billion Russian data points leaked, including first names, phone numbers, last names, and passwords. One notable incident involved the sale of personal data belonging to 60 million Sberbank credit card holders on the online black market in 2019.

China follows closely behind with approximately 2 billion data points leaked, predominantly names, IP addresses, usernames, encrypted passwords, and passwords. A significant incident in March 2019 involved the leak of data for 364 million WeChat and QQ users.
