X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has introduced a message editing feature for iOS users, allowing them to edit messages they have already sent. The feature has been available since last weekend, with a similar feature coming to other platforms soon. This feature joins other chat apps that have offered message editing for some time, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and Messenger. Apple also added the ability to edit messages in iMessage since iOS 16.

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has launched a new message editing feature for iOS users. This feature allows users to revise messages they have already sent, a feature that has been available since last weekend according to TechCrunch. An engineer at X confirmed the rollout, assuring users that a similar feature will be available on other platforms soon.

Editing Capabilities and Limits

X users have the freedom to edit messages any time after sending them, including those sent long ago. However, there is a limit of five edits per message, a restriction that also applies to edits on posts on the X platform. Notably, unlike some other applications that allow access to message edit history, X currently does not provide users with the ability to view the edit history or previous versions of edited messages. Although X explains that they keep records of edited messages for security reasons, they choose not to display this information to users.

Joining the Ranks of Editing Apps

The introduction of message editing on X follows in the footsteps of other popular messaging applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and Messenger, all of which have offered this feature for some time. Apple has also incorporated message editing functionality into iMessage since the release of iOS 16.

How to Edit Messages on X for iOS Users

For iOS users who have access to the message editing feature on X, here's how to use it:

  1. Open a direct message (DM) conversation in the X app.
  2. Long-press the sent message or click the three-dot menu next to the message.
  3. Select the "Edit Message" option to modify the sent message.
  4. After making the desired changes, click "Save" to update the message.

The addition of message editing to X provides users with a convenient way to correct mistakes, clarify messages, or simply update their thoughts after sending a message. This feature, along with others, continues to enhance the user experience on the platform, making communication more efficient and flexible.
