The highly anticipated iPhone 16 series was rumored to feature significant upgrades, including improved battery life, enhanced cooling, and a rapid 45W charging capability. However, recent testing conducted by ChargerLAB presents a different picture, revealing that the iPhone 16 Pro Max maxes out at approximately 30W charging speeds.

Actual Charging Speed Falls Short of Rumors

ChargerLAB's tests, employing both official Apple and third-party chargers, indicate that the iPhone 16 Pro Max reaches a peak charging speed of around 30W. While a brief spike to 37W was observed with Apple's 140W USB-C charger, the duration of this peak speed remains unclear. PhoneArena corroborates these findings, reporting charging speeds of 38W for the iPhone 16, but only during demanding tasks like benchmarks or gaming.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max's charging speed, while faster than its predecessor's 27W, falls short of the anticipated 45W. Despite the discrepancies, ChargerLAB recommends using Apple's 35W USB-C charger for optimal charging speeds. Alternatively, third-party chargers like UGREEN's 65W charger and Anker's 65W charger offer reliable performance.

Addressing the Confusion: Apple's Official Statement

It's crucial to note that Apple never explicitly stated a specific charging speed for the iPhone 16 series. The 45W figure originated from Chinese regulatory documents. Apple's official statement simply mentions that all iPhone 16 models can achieve 50% charge within 30 minutes when using a 20W or higher USB-C charger, a feature also present in the iPhone 15 series.

The discrepancy between the rumored 45W charging and the actual performance underscores the importance of relying on verified testing and official statements from manufacturers. While the iPhone 16 series offers improved charging capabilities, the reality falls short of the initial expectations. It's crucial to consider the actual charging speeds reported by independent testers when making purchasing decisions.
