Instagram has introduced a new feature called Quiet Mode, designed to help users take a break from the app and manage their screen time. When activated, you'll be shielded from notifications, your activity status will be updated to 'in Quiet Mode,' and Instagram will automatically send an automated response to any Direct Messages (DMs) you receive.
Why Quiet Mode Matters
Quiet Mode is particularly valuable for teenagers, as they are automatically placed in Quiet Mode between 10 pm and 7 am. This helps promote healthy sleep habits and minimizes distractions during crucial nighttime hours. Parents or guardians can also opt to extend Quiet Mode further, effectively blocking Instagram during sleep hours.
How to Enable Quiet Mode
- Access Your Profile: Tap on your profile picture or icon in the bottom right corner.
- Go to Settings: Tap on the 'more options' button in the top right corner.
- Manage Your Time: Under 'Settings and Activity', tap on 'Time Management'.
- Activate Quiet Mode: Tap on 'Quiet Mode' and toggle the switch on.
- Set a Schedule: If Quiet Mode is active, you can choose the days and times you want your account to be in Quiet Mode.
- Save Your Changes: Tap on the arrow in the top left to save your changes.
You can also schedule Quiet Mode to automatically turn on and off at specific times each day. To disable Quiet Mode, simply follow the steps above and turn off the 'Quiet Mode' toggle.
Using Instagram in Quiet Mode
While in Quiet Mode, you can still use Instagram and send and receive messages. However, your activity status will change to 'in Quiet Mode,' and the green active dot will change to a moon icon. People who send you messages will receive an automated reply explaining that you won't be notified about their message during that time. Once Quiet Mode ends, you'll receive a summary of notifications or new messages you received while in Quiet Mode.
The Benefits of Quiet Mode
By enabling Quiet Mode, Instagram empowers users to control their notification flow, set usage limits, and manage their screen time. This promotes a healthier relationship with social media by reducing distractions and providing a conscious break from the constant stream of notifications.
